CONTRACT REGISTERED DIETICIAN CONSULTANT
28-42 HOURS PER MONTH
Under the direct supervision of the Paris-Lamar County WIC Director or designee. Is responsible for ensuring the delivery of program services that are performed in compliance with the federal and state policies and procedures. Duties include planning, coordination, and evaluation clinical and nutrition services program.
DUTIES, ACCOUNT ABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Responsible for teaching classes (or assist in teaching classes) on the advantage of good nutrition.
•Distribute nutrition information and discuss nutrition in the clinic.
•Address specific concerns of participants. Correct misinformation.
•Council participants with high risk conditions. Identify conditions not the norm and make an immediate, appropriate referral. Document referral on appropriate referral log.
•Counsel over the telephone.
•Record counseling encounters in the participants folder.
EXPECTATIONS FOT THE RD CONSULTANTS ARE AS FOLLOWS
•Assistance with the LA’s quality assurance program (e.g. ongoing evaluation of individual counseling, nutrition classes, clinical procedures, and the provision of training and technical assistance to address areas of concern).
•Provision of in-service training on topics that include but are not limited to nutrition related to infants, children, and women, counseling topics, risk conditions, and clinical procedures (e.g. anthropometric measurements and health history).
•Assistance with the NE/BF Plan (e.g. development of plan, preparation of staff to teach classes, oversight of implementation, etc.).
•Providing individual counseling for participants with high risk conditions.
•Conducting facilitated-discussion nutrition-education classes.
•Consultation regarding the appropriate issuance for special formulas.
•Experience in WIC and/or maternal and infant nutrition preferred.
•Have the ability to communicate with strangers.
•Have the ability to organize thoughts and present accurate information.
•Have the ability to document and keep accurate records.
•Have telephone availability and have access to reliable transportation.
•Bachelor of Science from an accredited college or university.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE
Credentials: Registered Dietician and holds a current membership with the Commission on Dietetic Registration the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association.
